Hungarian Embassy Zagreb

This project is an invited architectural competition held in 2005 on designing the refurbishment of the heritage listed Residence Building of the Hungarian Ambassador and the new administration building of the Hungarian Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia.

The Residence - from the ‘20s - is a finely detailed example of the Eastern European art nouveau style residential architecture. The two buildings however standing on the same plot functionally had to be definitely well separated.

The new building is answering with graceful and simple architecture for the rich ornaments and details of the Residence. With the compact volume, almost detail less facades and clearly structured layout the functionality is to be enhanced. Meanwhile the refurbishment of the Residence is more focusing on representation. The design is based on this functional and architectural contrast which results an exiting blend of different architectural styles.
The design won the third prize of the Jury.
